IICT’s Video Game Programme Achieves 100% Placement as Environment Art Students Join Lakshya Digital Studios

In a significant milestone for India’s emerging creative technology education ecosystem, students specializing in Environment Art from the Video Game programme at the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) have secured 100% placements at Lakshya Digital Studios, Delhi. The achievement highlights the growing demand for specialized talent in gaming and digital content creation while demonstrating how industry-aligned education can help address India’s persistent employability challenge.

The successful placements come at a time when India is witnessing rapid growth in the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR) sector. While India produces millions of graduates every year, employers across industries continue to report a gap between academic qualifications and job-ready skills. As technology transforms the workplace, sectors such as gaming, animation, immersive media, virtual production and digital content creation are creating entirely new career opportunities that require specialized training, practical experience and industry exposure.

Against this backdrop, IICT is emerging as a new-age institution designed to bridge that gap. Established by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting in collaboration with the Government of Maharashtra, IICT has been envisioned as a national centre of excellence for the AVGC-XR sector and a catalyst for building India’s creative technology workforce. Inaugurated by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the institute currently operates from its temporary campus at the NFDC-Films Division Complex in Mumbai while its permanent world-class campus is being developed at Film City, Goregaon.

Unlike conventional programmes that often focus heavily on theory, IICT’s curriculum has been designed in close partnership with industry leaders to equip students with skills that are directly relevant to the workplace. The institute offers specialized programmes across gaming, animation, visual effects, extended reality, post-production and digital content creation, preparing students for some of the fastest-growing segments of the global digital economy.

To strengthen industry relevance and global exposure, IICT has signed strategic partnerships and MoUs with leading organizations and institutions including Google, Meta, Netflix, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Adobe, YouTube, York University, Deakin University, Comic Con India, Green Rain Studios and several other industry and academic partners. These collaborations are helping shape curriculum design, provide access to cutting-edge technologies and create pathways for internships, mentorships and employment opportunities.

The placement success of the Environment Art cohort offers a strong example of why skills-based education is becoming increasingly important.

Environment artists play a critical role in game development, creating the virtual worlds, landscapes and immersive environments that define player experiences. As gaming continues to emerge as one of the world’s fastest-growing entertainment industries, demand for such specialized talent is expected to rise significantly.

Commenting on the achievement, Dr. Vishwas Deoskar, CEO, IICT, said, “The 100% placement of our Environment Art students is a validation of IICT’s vision to create industry-ready talent for the AVGC-XR sector. India’s young population needs access to education that is aligned with the jobs of the future. By combining creativity, technology and industry engagement, we are ensuring that students graduate not only with qualifications but with the skills and confidence required to build meaningful careers in the global creative economy.”
