Mumbai, August 19, 2026: Cementing its position as one of India’s most thrilling and culturally rich sporting spectacles, the Pro Govinda League (PGL) today officially unveiled its highly anticipated Championship Trophy alongside a staggering total prize pool of ₹1.89 Crores. The glittering unveiling ceremony marked a historic milestone for the sport, staying true to the central theme of the upcoming season: the Pro Govinda League is going grander and bigger than ever before.
Transforming the deeply rooted traditional festival of Dahi Handi into a world-class professional athletic league, the PGL has systematically scaled up every dimension of the competition. Today’s spectacular launch event offered fans, media, and franchises a glimpse into the magnified scale of the tournament, which promises an upgraded, high-octane arena experience and unparalleled competition.
The announcement of the colossal ₹1.89 Crore prize money underscores the league’s unwavering commitment to its athletes. By introducing this massive financial reward, the PGL is ensuring that the Govindas are financially empowered, simultaneously elevating the commercial footprint and professional viability of the sport. The majority of prize purse will be distributed among the top three teams with the winning team to be awarded ₹75 lakhs, first runners-up ₹50 lakhs, and second runners-up ₹25 lakhs. Additionally, each participating team will get ₹3 lakhs.
Competing for this monumental reward, the elite franchises will battle it out to lift the newly unveiled Championship Trophy, a brilliantly crafted masterpiece that stands as the ultimate symbol of strength, balance, unity, and glory.
“Pro Govinda League has grown significantly over the past three seasons and so has the grandeur of the trophy and rewards. Our ambitions for the human pyramid sport go far beyond national borders; we aim to take our traditional sport to the Commonwealth Games, with the ultimate goal of making it part of the Olympics,” said Purvesh Sarnaik, President of the Pro Govinda League. “By scaling up the league this season and introducing a historic ₹1.5 Crore prize pool, our core objective is to incentivize and encourage a new generation of young athletes to take up this sport professionally. We want to demonstrate that their extraordinary strength and teamwork can command global respect and substantial rewards.”
With the trophy now gleaming under the spotlight and the historic prize money set, the stage is officially primed. Thousands of top-tier Govindas are currently undergoing rigorous training, gearing up to showcase their awe-inspiring human pyramids and promising fans an electrifying display of athleticism and teamwork.
Recently the league onboarded Indian cricketing superstar Suryakumar Yadav as the league's official Brand Ambassador and JioHotstar as the streaming partner.
