Western strike later to hold Union Bank 1-1

Mumbai: Union Bank of India conceded a late goal and were forced to share honours with a plucky Western Railway in a well-contested Elite (Corporate) Division match of the Mumbai Football Association (MFA) League 2022-2023 and played at the Neville D’Souza ground, Bandra on Thursday.

After a barren first half, the better organized Union Bank who called the shots final broke the deadlock when Brendon Fernandes hit the target in the 65th minute to take a narrow 1-0 lead.

Western Railway fought on gamely and their efforts were rewarded and they managed to find the equalizing goal through seasoned striker Merwyn Stephen’s strike in the 85th minute to clinch a honourable draw and earn one point.

Earlier, Teleperformance SC were on a goal-scoring spree and registered a thumping 13-1 defeat on Central Railway Mumbai Division in a one-sided First Division encounter. The heroes of Teleperformance win were strikers Aston Palekar and Adveya Male, both scoring a hat-trick of goals each while teammates Rivaldo Miranda, Manglesh Yadav and Kamresh Pakori all contributed two goals each and Stelon Erangle got one to complete their massive victory. Central Railway managed to score a consolation goal when Mohd. Khan found the net in the fourth minute of the additional period.

Results – Third Div: Regal FC 4 (Pramesh Salunkhe, Jay Parab, Agnelo Picardo, Santosh Chouhan) beat B.S. Passi SC 3 (J. Mehta 2, R. Thakkar).

Jupiter FC 1 (Vikas Samson) beat Mumbai Strikers SC 0.

Soccer XI 1 (Devan Shah) drew with Bombay Tigers Challengers SC 1 (Lakshay Waghela).

Rising Sun FA 0 drew with SFA Foundation 0.

Super Div: Teleperformance SC 13 (Aston Palekar 3, Adveya Male 3, Rivaldo Miranda 2, Manglesh Yadav 2, Kamresh Pakori 2, Stelon Erangle) beat Central Railway Mumbai Division 1 (Mohd. Khan).

Elite Div: Union Bank of India 1 (Brendon Fernandes) drew with Western Railway 1 (Merwyn Stephen).
